Garage Door Repair FAQs

Straight answers to the questions Wichita homeowners ask most before calling — pricing, safety, timing, and more.

Are the prices I see online what I'll actually pay?

The ranges on our cost page are real Wichita-area numbers, not lowball bait. The contractor confirms your exact price on site, for free, before touching your door, based on your door's size, spring weight, and what's actually broken. Nothing changes once work begins without your sign-off first.

Why do you always replace both springs, not just the broken one?

Torsion springs are rated for a set number of open-close cycles, and both sides wear down at close to the same rate. When one breaks, the other is usually near the end of its life too. Replacing both now costs less than paying for a second service call a few months later.

Can I replace a garage door spring myself?

We don't recommend it. Torsion springs are wound under heavy tension, and the specialized bars and technique needed to safely unwind and reset them aren't something most homeowners have on hand. Every year people are seriously injured attempting this — it's one repair worth leaving to a licensed contractor.

How fast can you actually get to my house?

Most Wichita and near-suburb calls get a same-day appointment, often within a few hours. Farther suburbs may run a bit longer depending on the day's schedule. Whoever answers the phone gives you a real time window up front, not a vague "sometime today."

Why do springs seem to break more often in winter?

Kansas temperature swings are hard on metal — a spring that's already worn contracts in a hard freeze and finally lets go, often right after a sharp overnight drop. Late fall through deep winter is our busiest season for spring calls across Wichita.

Do you work on all garage door opener brands?

Contractors in our network work on the major residential opener brands sold and installed across Wichita over the past several decades. Have your make and model ready when you call so we can confirm parts availability before the contractor heads your way.

How long should a garage door spring or opener actually last?

Torsion springs are typically rated for several thousand cycles, roughly seven to ten years of average household use, less if the door runs multiple times a day. Openers usually last ten to fifteen years, with the motor and drive gear as the most common wear points.

Do you charge just to come out and look?

No. The on-site estimate is free whether or not you decide to move forward with the repair. You'll get a firm, itemized price before any work starts — the visit itself never shows up as a charge on the bill.
